This is a band loom. In 2025, I decided to try my hand at Rosemaling.

I took a class in Minnesota.

Here is my first Rosemaling loom...

This was a piece of poplar from Home Depot. A thin 6" x 36" plank cut to about 8", makes a good starter size loom. I carved out the slot with a chip knife. You can make an easy one with a 5x8 picture frame and stir sticks from Michaels or Walmart. Just drill 1/16" holes, cut and glue them into the frame. You will need a bead reamer or needle file to clean those holes. Make sure there is no rough edges to catch your threads.  I painted mine with milk paint base and oil paint design.

I have an old barn loom. Here is Donna with a cotton rug she made on the loom. A good way to use strips of scraps from other projects.
